Core Summary:
The Cell Biology Core Facility was established in 2015. We provide advanced imaging equipment as well as technical support to researchers in FAFU and all other research communities. Supporting these imaging instruments, we also provide instruments and common reagent supplies for sample preparation. In addition, we offer frequent training sessions and consultation services to our users.
List of Instruments:
Zeiss LSM880 confocal microscope
Zeiss LSM880 is the newest point scanning confocal microscope, equipped with an Airyscan detector for high sensitivity and ultra-high resolution imaging. The LSM880 has seven visible excitation lines (355nm, 405nm, 458 nm, 488 nm, 514 nm, 561 nm and 633nm), and five detectors including a high-sensitivity GaAsP detector and Airyscan detector. The LSM880 has 10x, 20x, 40x(oil) and 63x(water) lenses, with a maximum imaging speed of 13 frame/second in basic scan mode (512x512). LSM880 is highly suitable for advanced imaging applications, such as FRAP and FRET.
Leica TCS SP8X-DLS
TCS SP8 is the latest point scanning confocal microscopy from Leica. The machine has highly sensitive hybrid detector “HyD” to improve signal-noise ratio. It also equipped with “AOBS beam splitter” to enable flexible and efficient illumination/detection. The SP8 has white light laser (WLL) and thus users can tune in to any excitation wavelength between 470nm and 670nm. Pulsed WLL with HyD enables “gated imaging”, which removes autofluorescence from samples. It is also equipped with conventional 405nm and argon lasers. The SP8 is equipped with 10x, 20x, 40x (dry/water), 60x (oil) and 100x (oil) lenses. Furthermore, the machine has digital light sheet capabilities, which enables long time-lapse imaging of large samples.
NiKON SMZ18 research stereomicroscope
Nikon's SMZ18 research stereomicroscope combines macro and micro imaging in one manual instrument for convenient, affordable viewing and manipulation of single cells to whole organisms. A high-performance fly-eye lens provides crystal-clear fluorescent images, with uniform brightness across the entire field of view. Using enhanced epi-fluorescence technology, the SMZ18 has improved S/N ratios and bright, high-contrast images, even in the low magnification range. Integrated intelligence allows SMZ18 to save imaging parameters along with the captured image as a convenient data file.
NIKON Ti-E inverted microscope
Eclipse Ti-E is a powerful inverted microscope system equipped with Nikon Perfect Focus System(PFS). The Eclipse Ti-E offers improved system speed, increased flexibility and efficient multi-mode microscopy as part of a fully-integrated microscope system that is ideal for high-end research and live cell imaging.
